A few of the more frustrating parts of keeping a planted aquarium is having your plants float away out of the substrate and having to use soils that can impact clarity. But the CaribSea RhyzoMat will help keep those plants in place. Plus, keeping a few natural plants always looks more appealing than the traditional plastic aquarium decorations. This makes it simple to get your feet wet (no pun intended) keeping aquatic plants.
The all-natural fiber mat provides a good structure for plants to dig their roots into to keep them in place. It also helps promote a healthy “root zone” or rhizosphere to produce a better environment for plants and the microorganisms that are essential for healthy aquarium plant growth.
Rhyzomats can be curt or torn to size and placed where you need them. It doesn’t have to be across the entire bottom either. For example, if you have a couple of plants in a corner, just rip off a chunk large enough to fit that area and then add your substrate of choice on top (sand or gravel). Rhyzomats are pH neutral, can also be used as a biological substrate. CaribSea also notes, these can be left somewhat exposed to provide “…a natural ‘soft cover’ for freshwater invertebrates (will not raise pH).
Rhyzomats are available in 12 x 24 in. or 12 x 12 in. sizes and retail for around $12.99 and $9.99 respectively.
